year 6 art gallery

Year 6 work or did David Hockney come into school I hear you ask.

Well, the children certainly created some amazing art work based on Hockney's lockdown daffodil pictures. Look at all the different interpretations from the same painting!

Year 3 orienteering in the sunshine

Year 3 had great fun  map reading and following orienteering clues set up around the playground, linking to their 'Travel to Tokyo' challenge for P.E.

With clues found, they then continued their learning back in class , locating the countries they had found .

Some were even able to locate the capital cities and work out the distance traveled between countries using the scale on the atlas.

Amazing work Year 3 - great team work!

inspired by hockney

Year 6 have been training to become pop artists. Recreating a bigger splash, by David Hockney, they used acrylics to paint their own interpretation of this famous picture.

we supported red nose day

Year 6 celebrated red nose and stripy socks day, by writing jokes to make people smile.

This fits with the theme of “Let’s share a smile” which is the comic relief motto for 2021. Look on our classroom windows, there’s some cracking jokes!

year 2 investigate materials

Year 2 have been busy experimenting which material would be most suitable to make trousers for a toddler.

The children identified that the material would need to be strong enough not to tear if the toddler falls over.   Working in groups and using six different materials, the children carried out a rub test.

It was the suede material that required the greatest number of rubs before a hole appeared!

science with cabbages

Do you know how to make red cabbage juice?  Year 6 do!

Can you tell the difference between an acid, alkali or a neutral? Year 6 can!

After an amazing day of experimenting, Year 6 showed their proficiency as scientists of the future by using an indicator to determine acid or alkali and even how to inflate a rubber glove with 2 simple ingredients!

year 4 scientists

'Year 4 had a virtual visit from a robotics scientist that looked at ways to make farming more efficient, so they sketched their own automated farming devices!

They also learnt about what an observation scientist does by looking at Jane Goodall and her ground-breaking theory on chimpanzee behaviour.

They then searched for their own animals and creatures and created theories around their behaviours, which they then proved and disproved like the scientific community would!'

Anyone for cricket?

Andrew Jackson, Cheshire Cricket's Coaching and Development Officer, has started a programme of work in Cricket with children across the school.

Mr  Jackson will be joining in weekly PE sessions with Mrs Clee to help develop the children's cricket skills. Lets hope we create future cricket stars!

Year 6 Learn to Ride Safely on Roads

Year 6 took part in their Bike-a-bility level 2 training to learn how to ride safely on the roads.

The children started on the playground but quickly progressed to cycling on the roads around Alderley Edge. The children learnt how important it is to stay alert and always wear a helmet!

Year 2 Scientists

During science week and as part of their work on materials, Year 2 researched the famous scientist, Charles Macintosh.

They discovered how he invented waterproof fabric.  The children then conducted an experiment to find out which materials were waterproof, and which were not waterproof.

They found out that plastic was waterproof but cotton, felt, hessian and tissue were not.

World Book Day 2021

At home and on site, AECPS celebrated World Book Day. The children wore their comfy clothes and joined in lots of fun-filled book activities including video conferences with authors and illustrators.

The teachers had a surprise for the children and held an AECPS Masked Reader. The children had to guess which teacher was reading each extract from a book? Can you work out who  all the readers are? - The Masked Reader - YouTube
