Reception enjoy maths

In Reception the children have been comparing and ordering items according to their size. They were sent on a hunt around the classroom for different items to put in size order. The children also looked at grouping and sorting items according to different criteria using buttons of different sizes, colours and with a different number of holes. This was a great way for children to develop and apply their mathematical thinking and observational skills.

Year 6 physicists

Year 6 have been investigating how to change and manipulate a shadow.

The children conducted an experiment into the relationship between the size of the shadow being cast and the position of the light source and object casting the shadow.

The children concluded the closer the light source to the object the larger the shadow.

Look how tall our sunflowers grew!

The PTA ran a sunflower competition and the results are in!

We had some fantastically tall sunflowers.

The winners grew their sunflower to 3m 20cm!

Year 3 Learn Science Through Stories

Year 3 have made some great periscopes when trying to work out how Rapunzel could see who was at the bottom of her tower!

They worked scientifically, experimenting with how mirrors work!

Year 6 Learn Semaphore

During our whole school focus of science in stories using the text Rapunzal, Year 6 investigated how different technologies can be used for communication.  The children decided that a quick and efficient way to get a message to and from Rapunzal was to use the signalling system called 'Semaphore'.  The 'Semaphore' flag signalling system is an alphabet signalling system based on the waving of a pair of hand-held flags in a particular pattern.  The children made their own flags and then learnt some of the signals before going outside to send messages across the playground.

Fun at the Alderley Edge Fair

Children from AECPS joined in the Alderley Edge Fair parade dressed in their Abba costumes.

The children represented our school brilliantly and really enjoyed spending time at the fair afterwards.

Welcome to Reception

We are extremely pleased and proud of with how well our new Reception class have settled into school. They have made new friends, explored their new classroom and the wider school environment. The children have had a fantastic time and their teachers have loved getting to  know the children and started to build positive relationships to enable all the children to flourish in their reception year.
